The strength and durability of a Bullet-Resistant Backpack depends on the thickness of the Kevlar and the ballistic rating. Thickness plays a huge part in a Bullet Resistant Backpacks ability to resist bullets.

In movies and TV shows, bulletproof anything is often depicted to be indestructible. No matter what weapon is used, no matter how many bullets are fired, bulletproof things remain intact and unchanged. The only problem is, in real life, bulletproof isn’t really bulletproof.

The correct term for bulletproof is actually "Bullet Resistant". Why? Because with big enough caliber bullet, a person can become victorious over the supposed indestructibility of something labeled “bulletproof" especially if the designed product only stops smaller type hand guns.

For instance, a shot fired from a 9mm pistol is less powerful than one fired from a rifle. Therefore, the required thickness of bullet-resistant material needed for a 9mm pistol is less than is needed for a rifle. So in the case of rifle bullets the material needed to stop such high powered bullets will be thicker and heavier. Adding 7 to 10 lbs. of bullet resistant steel will only add more weight to an already heavy book filled backpack.

There are lighter weight options for stopping rifle rounds such as UHMWPE panels and Bullet Resistant Ceramic tiles which are extremely expensive. Both are lighter in weight but add in most cases an unaffordable option to the cost of the Backpack.

We have come up with a unique option so you can actually keep the backpack that you already own. No need to purchase at an added expense another Backpack that doesn't fit your personality just because it says its bullet resistant. We offer bullet resistant inserts in many different sizes. All the Backpack inserts we make will stop multiple bullets from super powered handguns such as the 44 magnum made famous by Clint Eastwood in the Dirty Harry movies. If rifles are what you want to protect against please see link.
